What changed

No text yet.

Text copied from PDFs, web pages, Word documents or chat apps often carries hidden junk: zero-width characters, odd spaces, curly quotes, stray bullets and piles of empty lines. Paste it here and get clean, plain text back in one step.

The essential fixes are switched on by default, and you can add more with a click: straighten quotes and dashes for code or CSV files, strip emoji, links or email addresses, or remove list markers. A summary shows exactly what was changed. Everything happens in your browser.

Features

  • Invisible characters removed

Zero-width spaces, soft hyphens, byte order marks and control characters are deleted; emoji stay intact.

  • Spacing and empty lines

Collapse repeated spaces and tabs, trim line ends and limit empty lines between paragraphs.

  • Plain typography

Optionally convert curly quotes, en and em dashes and ellipsis characters to plain keyboard characters.

  • Strip unwanted content

Remove emoji, links, email addresses or bullet and number markers at the start of lines.

  • Unicode normalization

Accented letters made of two characters are combined, so search and comparisons work as expected.

When to use the text cleaner

Typical situations where cleaning helps:

  • Pasting from a PDF or website into a CMS, spreadsheet or form that shows strange spacing or symbols.
  • Preparing text for code, CSV or JSON, where curly quotes and invisible characters cause errors.
  • Removing emoji, links or contact details before sharing or analyzing text.
  • Turning a bulleted or numbered list into plain lines.
  • Fixing text that looks identical to another but does not match in a search or formula.

Frequently asked questions

What does the text cleaner do by default?

It normalizes Unicode, removes invisible characters, fixes spacing, collapses runs of empty lines into one, and converts line endings to the standard LF format. Other rules are optional.

Will it remove my emoji?

Only if you turn on “Remove emoji”. Removing invisible characters keeps the hidden joiners that combined emoji need, so they are not broken.

Why straighten quotes?

Word processors replace " and ' with curly quotes. Those look nicer but break code, CSV files and search. Straightening converts them back to plain characters.

What is Unicode normalization?

Some accented letters can be stored as one character or as a letter plus a separate accent. Normalizing makes them all use the single-character form, so identical-looking words really are identical.

How is this different from Remove Extra Spaces?

Remove Extra Spaces focuses only on whitespace with fine-grained control. The Text Cleaner combines several kinds of cleanup, including characters, typography and content, in one pass.

Is my text uploaded?

No. All cleanup runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
