Ascending

Paste a list of numbers and get them sorted in true numeric order, so 9 comes before 10 and 100, unlike an alphabetical sort. Numbers can be separated by new lines, commas, spaces or tabs, and decimals, negative values and thousands separators are all understood.

Need to rank a list such as scores, prices or results? Switch to sorting lines by their number: each line stays intact and is ordered by the number it contains. Remove duplicates, choose ascending or descending order, and see the sum, average, median, smallest and largest value. All in your browser.

Features

  • True numeric order

2 sorts before 10 and 100, and -5 before 0, exactly as numbers should.

  • Decimals, negatives, thousands

Sorts values like -2.5, 0.75 and 1,234,567 correctly, in US or European format.

  • Sort lines by number

Rank lines such as “Ann: 92” or “Item 10 pears” by the first number in each line.

  • Any input layout

Numbers can be separated by new lines, commas, semicolons, spaces or tabs.

  • Statistics included

Count, sum, average, median, smallest and largest value of your list.

  • Duplicate removal

Keep each value once, or each line once when sorting lines.

Why not sort numbers alphabetically?

An alphabetical sort compares numbers character by character, so 100 comes before 9 because 1 is smaller than 9. Numeric sorting compares the actual values. Our Sort Lines tool has a natural sort for mixed text; this tool is built for lists where the numbers are what matter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I sort numbers from smallest to largest?

Paste the numbers and keep “Ascending 1 → 9” selected. The sorted list appears immediately; choose “Descending 9 → 1” for largest first.

Can I sort numbers separated by commas?

Yes. Numbers can be separated by commas, spaces, semicolons, tabs or new lines. Choose Comma as the output separator to get a comma-separated result again.

Does it handle decimals and negative numbers?

Yes. Negative numbers sort before zero and decimals are compared by value. Choose the 1.234,56 format if your numbers use a decimal comma.

How do I sort lines by the number they contain?

Choose “Lines by their number”. Each line is sorted by the first number in it, the lines themselves are kept unchanged, and lines without a number are placed at the end.

What is the median?

The middle value when the numbers are sorted, or the average of the two middle values for an even count. It is less affected by extreme values than the average.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Sorting and calculations happen in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
