Matches

No matches yet.

Change a word, a name or a phrase everywhere in your text in one step. Type what to find and what to replace it with, and the updated text appears instantly, with a list of every match and what it will become.

For more control you can match case, limit matches to whole words, or switch on regular expressions to rearrange dates, clean up data or reformat lists with capture groups. All processing happens in your browser, and slow patterns are stopped automatically so the page never freezes.

How to find and replace text

  1. STEP 01

    Paste your text

Paste or type the text you want to edit into the box at the top.

  2. STEP 02

    Enter find and replace

Type the text to find and its replacement. Leave the replacement empty to delete every match.

  3. STEP 03

    Review and copy

Check the match list, adjust options if needed, then copy or download the result.

02

Features

  • Live preview of every change

Each match is listed with its line, column and surrounding text, showing the old and new value.

  • Match case and whole words

Replace “Cat” but not “cat”, or “cat” but not “category”. Whole-word matching understands accented letters.

  • Regular expressions

Use JavaScript regex syntax with $1, $2 and $<name> in the replacement to rearrange matched text.

  • Line breaks and tabs

Turn on escape sequences to search for or insert \n line breaks and \t tabs without regex.

  • Replace all or first

Change every occurrence at once, or only the first one.

  • Safe and private

Text never leaves your browser, and runaway regular expressions are stopped after a few seconds.

Regular expression examples

Turn on Regular expression and try these patterns:

  • Reformat dates: find (\d{4})-(\d{2})-(\d{2}) and replace with $3/$2/$1 to turn 2026-11-03 into 03/11/2026.
  • Swap names: find (\w+) (\w+) and replace with $2, $1 to turn “Jane Doe” into “Doe, Jane”.
  • Remove trailing spaces: find \s+$ and leave the replacement empty.
  • Add a bullet to every line: find ^ and replace with “- ”.
  • Collapse blank lines: find \n{3,} and replace with \n\n to keep at most one empty line.

Frequently asked questions

How do I replace a word everywhere in my text?

Paste the text, type the word in Find and the new word in Replace with. Every occurrence is replaced immediately; turn on Whole words only to avoid changing longer words that contain it.

How do I delete every occurrence of something?

Leave the Replace with field empty. Every match is removed from the text.

Can I replace line breaks?

Yes. Turn on Escape sequences and type \n in Find, for example to replace each line break with a comma. In regex mode, use \n directly in the pattern.

Which regular expression syntax is supported?

Standard JavaScript regular expressions with Unicode support, including groups, named groups, lookahead and lookbehind. ^ and $ match at the start and end of each line.

Why do special characters like $ or ( work in normal mode?

Outside regex mode, everything you type is matched literally, so you can search for prices, brackets or punctuation without escaping them.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Search and replace run in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to a server.
