Removed marks
No punctuation removed yet.
Strip periods, commas, question marks, quotes, brackets, dashes and other punctuation from your text in one step, while the words stay exactly as they are. It works with curly quotes, ellipses, Spanish ¿ ¡, French « » and full-width CJK punctuation too.
Unlike a simple find-and-delete, smart rules keep the punctuation that belongs inside words: contractions like don't and it's, hyphenated words like well-known, numbers like 3.14 and 10:30, and complete URLs and email addresses. Choose exactly which groups of marks to remove. Your text never leaves your browser.

Features
Remove by group
Sentence endings, commas and colons, quotes, brackets, dashes and other marks can each be removed or kept.
Contractions stay readable
Apostrophes inside words are kept, so don't, it's and O'Brien do not turn into dont, its and OBrien.
Numbers and hyphenated words
Decimal points, thousands separators and times like 10:30 stay, as do words like well-known and COVID-19.
Links left intact
URLs and email addresses keep their dots, slashes and @ signs so they still work after cleaning.
Every language
Recognises Unicode punctuation, including curly quotes, ellipses, « », ¿ ¡ and CJK marks like 。,「」.
Optional symbols
Also remove symbols such as $ + = < > © ° when you need bare words. Emoji are never removed.
When to remove punctuation
Text without punctuation is easier for many tools and tasks to work with:
- Preparing text for word frequency, keyword or NLP analysis, so “word,” and “word” count as the same word.
- Cleaning transcripts, subtitles or scraped text before importing it elsewhere.
- Creating hashtags, tags or search keywords from sentences.
- Normalising names, titles and lists before comparing or de-duplicating them.
Frequently asked questions
Which characters count as punctuation?
All Unicode punctuation marks: . , ; : ! ? … ' " “ ” « » ( ) [ ] { } - – — / @ # % & * _ ¡ ¿ and their equivalents in other scripts. Symbols like $ + = © are not punctuation; turn on “Also remove symbols” to remove them too.
Will it turn “don't” into “dont”?
No, not by default. Apostrophes between letters are kept so contractions and names stay readable. Turn off “Keep apostrophes in words” to remove them as well.
What happens to numbers like 3.14 or 1,000?
Periods, commas and colons between digits are kept, so 3.14, 1,000 and 10:30 stay correct. Turn off “Keep separators in numbers” to remove them.
Can I remove only some punctuation, like quotes?
Yes. Click the groups to switch them on or off. Only the highlighted groups are removed; all other marks stay.
Why are some words joined after removing punctuation?
Marks like slashes or underscores sometimes separate words, as in either/or. Choose “Replace with space” so each removed mark becomes a space instead.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Punctuation is removed in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
