- Hashtags: up to 5 per post or Reel. Instagram reduced the limit from 30 in December 2025.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Instagram caption character limit?
2,200 characters for both feed posts and Reels. Spaces, line breaks, emoji, hashtags and mentions all count toward it.
How many characters can an Instagram bio have?
150 characters. Switch the tool to Bio to check against that limit and preview how your bio's line breaks will look.
How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?
Up to 5 hashtags per post or Reel. Instagram lowered the limit from 30 in December 2025, so older advice about using 30 hashtags no longer applies.
Do emoji count as more than one character?
Often, yes. Many emoji take two or more units of space, and combined emoji such as flags take four or more. The Characters total counts them that way, and the Visible total counts each emoji as one so you can compare.
How much of my caption shows before “more”?
Roughly the first 125 characters, depending on the device and on line breaks. Put your hook in the opening line so it is visible in the feed.
